Britain’s AC Cars via two special edition models; however, they came available only with an electric drivetrain or a Ford V6.

That left a big, obvious hole in the lineup, one that could only be filled by a massive V8. Thankfully, the carmaker plans to fill it, partnering with one of its dealership in the north of London to do so.

AC vendor Boss Motor Company will be solely responsible for building new Superblower 378 MKIV Cobras on behalf of the company, a model that AC Cars first debuted in 1998, but was only able to build a few of. Luckily for you “purists,” this AC has been fitted with a thundering V8.

And thundering it is, the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 sourced from the Corvette Z06, which means it makes a whopping 588 horsepower — about 150 more than an original 1965 427 Cobra made.

The body sits atop a ladder chassis, just like the original, but there have been a few improvements made in the 58 years since the AC Cobra was introduced. Vented brake discs with servo-assisted brake calipers help bring the car to a stop, while a limited-slip differential and multi-link suspension with coil-over shock absorbers bring the handling up to modern car levels.

It isn’t clear how many Superblower 378 MKIV editions will be built, but it is clear they won’t be cheap; prices start at £129,500 (almost CDN$230,000).

As for the Charter and electric edition of the vehicle, only 58 of each type of those will be produced, that number chosen for the number of years since the original Cobra was created.
