Did Jennifer Aniston Just Tease a Friends Reunion in the Future? - Showbiz Cheat Sheet
Fans of Friends have been itching for a reboot since the beloved sitcom ended in 2004. However, the show’s creators openly shut down rumors of a potential revival in the past. But now, it seems Jennifer Aniston , who played Rachel Green for a decade, just teased the possibility of a Friends reunion while on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Though, her statements aren’t exactly as clear as viewers would like.

On Oct. 28, Aniston stopped by The Ellen Show, where the host introduced the actress to singer Charlie Puth. The “We Don’t Talk Anymore” crooner revealed he is a massive Friends fan, and even asked Aniston about a reunion in the future.

At first, Aniston asked DeGeneres and Puth for clarification. “Like a reboot of the show?” she asked. When the two confirmed, Aniston replied, “No.”

“Listen, we would love for there to be something,” she said. “But, we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying, we’re really trying. We’re working on something.”

When DeGeneres prodded the 50-year-old actress, Aniston joked, “Do you think you have some secret information?” But, Aniston then hinted at “something” happening, even if it isn’t exactly the Friends reunion everyone is dying to see.

So is the “something” they’re working on a Friends movie rather than a television reunion? Luckily, DeGeneres was on it and proposed the idea to Aniston.

“We can safely say that it’s probably not a reboot movie, though,” DeGeneres wondered.

“Huge, huge huge, movie. No,” Aniston said. “I don’t know — we don’t know.”

But, DeGeneres went in further and asked again. And this time, Aniston admitted why she can’t give a straight answer. “I don’t know yet, and I don’t want to lead people on,” she shared.

Although we may not have a definitive answer on a Friends revival, Aniston’s update confirms something is in the works. But, given the timing of the announcement, it makes the Friends cast reunion on Instagram a little suspicious. And DeGeneres did not overlook this nugget of information.

“You were hanging out,” DeGeneres noted. “The very first [Instagram] post you did was all of them at your house.”

Aniston responded, “But we did that because we miss each other. And we all happened to be in the same part of the world.”

Then Puth interjected, echoing the voice of fans across the nation. “Sounds like, to me, that there’s something in the works,” he laughed.

And DeGeneres agreed. “Nobody falls for that, Jen,” the host said. “Nobody is like, ‘Oh, let’s all get together because we haven’t seen each other.”

Then when Aniston claimed the Friends cast gets together, DeGeneres asked about the last time it happened. And Aniston stumbled on her words. “Yeah, years ago,” DeGeneres explained.

Aniston’s comments about the future of Friends comes weeks after the show’s co-creators, Marta Kauffman and David Crane opened up about the idea at the 25th-anniversary panel at the Tribeca TV Festival in September. And according to Vulture, Kauffman and Crane revealed they are .

“We will not be doing a reunion show, we will not be doing a reboot,” Kauffman said. “There are two reasons for that. One of them is, the reason we won’t be doing a reunion is this is a show about that time in your life when your friends are your family, and once you start having family, that changes. It wouldn’t be at what’s at the heart of the show. The other reason is, it’s not going to be what we did.”

Meanwhile, Crane acknowledged they didn’t want to revive Friends because they told the story they wanted to tell.

“We did the show we wanted to do,” Crane said. “We got it right and put the bow on it that we wanted to put. As Marta says, if you visited those characters now, it would just have a different DNA and it would just not be the same show. Chances are it wouldn’t be as good of a show. This feels like this is the show, so why go back to the well?”

It’s easy to see why Aniston can’t confirm anything in regards to a Friends reunion. The show’s creators have already expressed their wish to keep the NBC series with its original run. However, it seems the actress wants something moving forward. So now, fans will just have to wait and see what happens next — no matter what that may look like or when it may be.
