The 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts begins tonight with the wild card game between Jennifer Jones and Tracy Fleury with the winner going on to compete and the loser heading home.
Local fans should know, the Friday night game is free to attend, however, donations are being accepted for Curling Canada. Friday night will also mark the opening of The Heart Stop Lounge in the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre. You can . The city will also have a Notorious Selfies booth set up, encouraging people to take selfies and post them on social media with the hashtag #NotoriousMJSelfie with the chance to win prizes.
When it comes to parking, downtown Moose Jaw is sure to be a zoo. Luckily, there are a few options for you. Public transit on all regular routes will be free if you show the driver your ticket to the event. City Transit however will not be in operation Sunday, February 16, Monday, February 17 or Sunday, February 23.
For those who do decide to park downtown, meters are still in effect, but the city has made changes so you dont have to run out in the middle of the draw to plug a meter. Meter times have been extended to three hours, instead of two hours - which was the case last time the Scotties were in town.
The city also offers pre-loaded Park Smart cards that work with most of the downtown meters. The cards are available to purchase at City Hall and can be pre-loaded with $10, $20, $50 or $100.
Eight restaurants and lounges throughout town will also act as houses for visiting fans, representing different regions competing at the Scotties. The Rock The Restaurants idea was a partnership between the Scotties, the local planning committee, Curling Canada, the City of Moose Jaw and the downtown business group.
