Costa Rica justice figure resigns after sexual abuse report

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - A Costa Rican Justice Ministry official has resigned after the country’s vice-minister of economy reported him for alleged sexual abuse.

Laura Pacheco said Friday via Twitter that the day before his resignation she had reported the case to prosecutors. She says she was doing what women should when someone else believes they have a right to your body.

The Justice Ministry announced Friday that Julio Solis, director of Citizen Peace and Coexistence Promotion had resigned.

Pacheco did not provide details of what occurred with Solis.

The accusation follows two formal sexual assault complaints against two-time Costa Rican president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Oscar Arias. At least seven other women have denounced sexual abuse or harassment by Arias.
