Chevrolet teases 2022 Bolt EUV steering wheel with Super Cruise

It was five years ago now that Chevrolet first revealed the 2017 Bolt EV to the masses at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. 

This year, the U.S. brand has returned to the event with a teaser for the next evolution of the electric vehicle. Actually, Chevy isn’t actually “physically” present at the 2021 CES show because nobody is — the event is taking place virtually this year due to COVID-19.

Chevrolet shared a teaser of the 2022 Bolt EUV’s steering wheel featuring Super Cruise, what the company calls “the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance system for enabled roads.” It’s the first Chevrolet vehicle to include the tech, .

In the teaser video, we see the Bolt EUV’s steering wheel and dash light up, followed by the Super Cruise light bar on the top of the wheel, which flashes red, blue and then green as the system starts up. The green light signals drivers that the system is activated and they may remove their hands from the wheel, red indicates the driver is not paying enough attention, and blue means the driver has taken over manual control while Super Cruise is on. 

GM expects the Super Cruise feature to be present in 22 of its units by 2023, including the upcoming electric Hummer . 

Both the Bolt EUV (electric utility vehicle) and the refreshed Bolt EV are expected to debut in February and enter production this summer.
