Ken Block destroys tires of fast Fords before auctioning them for charity

Ken Block is looking for something to do while Travis Pastrana takes over for the next Hoonigan Gymkhana video , and has taken a shining to melting the tires on cars, for fun.

Well, not just for fun (although perhaps mostly). Block is auctioning off said vehicles for charity after he melts the tires off ’em. Did we mention one of the said vehicles is a low-mileage Ford GT?

Block partnered with Omaze, an online auction site, to sell a 2005 Ford GT with just 1,500 miles on the odometer. Omaze said Ken could only put 50 miles more onto the odometer while he hyped up buyers for the auction, and while most of us would have taken a spirited drive on some back roads, Block decided to do something completely on-brand — ruin the car’s rubber with a big smokey burnout.

It doesn’t really matter what the condition of the tires is at the time of auction, however, because the vehicle will be sold to the highest bidder with all proceeds going to charity. If the new owner wants a vehicle with some pedigree, well, not everyone can say “Ken Block did a burnout in my car.”

Along with the GT, Block will auction off his own Ford Focus RS RX rallycross car, the one used in Gymkhana 9 and 10, and which also provided the motivation for his 2016 World Rallycross Championship season. The Focus will be sold by Barrett-Jackson, with proceeds going toward Team Rubicon charity, which provides relief to people affected by natural disasters.
