Life’s a Beach: Jeep introduces Islander package for Renegade, Wrangler

After over ten years of dormancy, the “Islander” name is set to reappear in Jeep’s lineup, appearing on both the Renegade and Wrangler .

After all, what better time to introduce a special edition package that evokes warm sun and soft sand than the dead of winter? At this rate, Jeep will surely be introducing a Jack Frost package in mid-August.

Built on the next-to-base Sport S trim for Wrangler, the Islander package is available on either two- or four-door models and comes with a slew of special badging. That lettering on the hood is accompanied by a depiction of Tiki Bob – yes, he has a name – along with embroidered Islander logos and Surf Blue stitching on the seats.

The rest of the rig is mostly standard Sport S fare, but Mopar rock rails have been added along its flanks. Must be some hard sand on that island.

As for the Renegade, its Islander package also appends itself to an entry-level trim; here, the North 4×4 model does duty in hosting similar Islander-specific interior and exterior styling treatments as the Wrangler. A panoramic sunroof is included, as are 19-inch silver alloy wheels and a remote start system.

“You can’t help but think summer and the beach life when you see these new Islander special editions,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand in North America. After what seems like an eternity of shovelling the driveway, we’ll take our summer vibes wherever we can get them.

Decades ago, the Wrangler YJ was first offered with an Islander package in 1988, one which incorporated a very-’80s set of graphics including a stylized sun and go-faster stripes. If the aftermarket does not replicate these for the new iteration, we will be sorely disappointed.

These Wrangler Islander and Renegade Islander special editions are already up on the brand’s Build & Price tool and are available to order right now at local Jeep dealers. Two-door Wrangler Islander has a starting price of $42,715 ($46,565 for four-door models) while the Renegade Islander is $34,140.
