Specialty Vehicle picks up Ram’s TRX gauntlet, builds an 800-hp Silverado

Bowtie buffs have looked on askance since the introduction of various high-horsepower pickups from the other 66 per cent of the Detroit Three, especially when Ram dropped the 702-hp TRX beast earlier this year.
Now, Chevy fans have an answer in the form of an 800-hp Silverado — even if it does come from a third party.
Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) has been adding heat to GM vehicles for ages, and now turns its attention to the latter’s 2021 line of pickup trucks. Called the Yenko Supercharged Silverado Off Road, it builds upon the hand-of-god 6.2L V8 with forged steel rods, forged aluminum pistons, and CNC-ported LT1 cylinder heads. Plus a honkin’ big supercharger of SVE’s own design, just for good measure.
It all adds up to 800 horsepower and 720 lb-ft of torque, nearly doubling the output of a stock 6.2L V8. Custom stainless steel headers with high-flow cats are part of the deal, ensuring your buddies on the trail will hear this truck long before they see it bounding over terra firma.
Each build starts with a Double Cab or Crew Cab truck in next-to-base Custom trim. This is actually a good foundation from which to start, since it provides a clean slate for all these modifications but can still be specced from the factory with a 6.2L V8 under its hood.
Speaking of which, a custom hood insert with black louvers appear as a styling flourish, along with a custom grille bearing the Yenko S/C branding. Retractable side steps help with ingress but tuck out of the way when it’s time to get dirty. LED lights hide behind those wonderfully retro sport bar lamps that recall KC Hilites from the 1980s.
