Boards reporting 92 active cases of COVID-19 at Sudbury-area schools

The Rainbow District School Board (RDSB) reported 35 active cases of COVID-19 at schools in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts on Wednesday.

Letters posted to the school board’s website notified the public that students on a number of shared school bus routes have been directed to self-isolate as a result of high-risk exposures to COVID-19.

The affected routes include the morning bus on route L817, the morning bus on route N521, the afternoon bus on route N510, and the morning bus on route L819.

These school bus routes service students from R.L. Beattie Public School and Northeastern Public School.

Public Health Sudbury and Districts said the last date of high-risk exposure on these bus routes was on Nov. 18. Students are required to self-isolate to and including Nov. 28.

The health unit also advised the board that the isolation period for R.L. Beattie students on the afternoon bus on route L659 has been extended to Nov. 28 as a result of a confirmed case of COVID-19.

The isolation period was extended because the health unit determined the last date of high-risk exposure was Nov. 18.

Students and staff in some classrooms at R.L. Beattie Public School have also been directed to self-isolate as a result of confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The Public Health direction extends to students and staff in the Grade 3 class in room 110, the Grade 4 class in room 128, the Grade 4 class in room 129, the Grade 4 class in room 131, the Grade 5/6 class in room 130, and the JK class in room 120.

RDSB is currently monitoring three active COVID-19 outbreaks at Sudbury Secondary School (two confirmed cases), Redwood Acres Public School (nine cases), and R.L. Beattie Public School (seven cases).

These schools remain open for in-person learning at this time.

The Sudbury Catholic District School Board (SCDSB) reported 27 active cases of COVID-19 at schools in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts on Wednesday.

The school board is monitoring four active COVID-19 outbreaks at St. Charles College (five cases), Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School (eight), Holy Trinity Catholic School (four), and St. Anne (three cases).

Cases of COVID-19 have also been confirmed at St. Benedict, Bishop Alexander Carter, St. Charles Elementary School, and St. James, amongst others.

According to the school board’s website, 15 classes have been closed as a result of COVID-19 exposures, but all schools remain open for in-person learning.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSC Nouvelon) reported 27 active cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Five CSC Nouvelon schools in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts have been closed as a result of COVID-19 outbreaks.

These schools include École St-Pierre, École St-Augustin, École St-Antoine, École St-Dominique, and École Sainte-Anne in Spanish.

A number of classes at CSC Nouvelon schools have been required to self-isolate due to COVID-19 exposures. A full list of classes is available on the school board’s website.
