Concession contract at Melfort’s Northern Lights Palace awarded

Reggie Bautista has been awarded the contract for the concession at the Northern Lights Palace, covering all confections, soft drinks and concession food.

Bautista is running a successful online take-out business with a specialty on Filipino food, and her homemade spring rolls can be ordered at Penny’s Soup and Sandwich in the Melfort Mall.

Bautista said they will continue to provide typical concession food like hotdogs, burgers, fries, poutines and pizza at the Palace – but will also serve homemade Asian cuisine. This includes spring rolls, noodles, dumplings, sushi and kabobs.

“When they come in here they can see a lot of variety of food that I can offer,” Bautista said.

“I’m happy to be part of the Melfort concession or Melfort community because I can introduce my passion of cooking.”

The Palace lobby is open during pool hours which run from Monday to Thursday at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., except the months of June to August; on Fridays from Friday 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

The concession is also open during tournaments, cabarets, shows, competitions, Mustang hockey games, hockey camps and any other major events specified by the facility manager.

The contract will run until June 31, 2023 at $1,200 a month.

Bautista said orders may be made in advance for events and parties. The concession can be reached at 306-921-8371.

The city’s community services committee, which recommended Reggie Bautista to council, also recommended a study on the Northern Lights Palace, which is now 30 years old. The study is expected to be referred to the 2022 budget process for further discussion and planning on potential upgrades to ensure the building’s longevity.
