Rash of thefts of equipment and vehicles from businesses

Numerous thefts from businesses have been reported just south of Southgate, in Dufferin County. Police are looking for help in ongoing investigations. HONDAS STOLEN IN ORANGEVILLE

Dufferin OPP has released a surveillance video of the theft of five brand new vehicles from Orangeville Honda Dealership on Hwy. 9.

The theft took place on Apr. 20, at about 11:45 p.m. The video shows that the 2021 Honda CRVS were individually driven the lot. The investigation continues.

The vehicles – white, grey and blue in colour – are valued at about $45,000 each making a grand total of nearly a quarter-million dollars of stolen property.

STOLEN EXCAVATOR FOUND IN PARTS

Dufferin OPP recovered disassembled parts of a 2020 Excavator Caterpillar 310-07 later the same week that it was stolen from a parking lot in Orangeville.

The theft took place overnight between Sunday and Monday, April 25 and 26, from a plaza parking lot on Brenda Boulevard. Police said the suspect(s) drove a white transport truck and trailer into the parking lot and loaded the excavator onto the trailer, then drove off.

Information as to the whereabouts of the excavator was obtained after a surveillance video was released on social media.

Dufferin OPP said Apr. 29 that they had received a search warrant for a property on the 14th Line in Innisfil, where parts of the excavator were recovered.

LAWN TRACTOR STOLEN IN BROAD DAYLIGHT IN DUFFERIN COUNTY

A lawn tractor was stolen from Peavey Mart (former TSC) at about 8 a.m. on Apr. 27 on Hwy. 9 in Mono.

The suspect drove a U-Haul rental truck with the rear plate obscured. There was a second vehicle involved, described as a white GMC Safari cargo van, that also had the plate obscured.

The stolen lawn tractor – a yellow 2021 54” Husqvarna Model YTH24V554, is valued at about $3,200.

Dufferin OPP is seeking the assistance of the public to identify the suspects involved in this theft.

THEFT OF LAWN MOWER

Larry’s Small Engines on Dufferin County Road 10 posted on social media to ask for the public’s help in solving the theft of equipment.

The business is offering a reward in identifying the individuals responsible for the thefts of a dirt bike and robotic lawnmower.

A 2020 Honda CRF450R was taken early morning on Friday, Apr. 16 and then on Friday evening, April 23, a Stihl iMOW 632 PC (robotic lawnmower) was stolen along with the canopy, the transformer which was bolted to the wall, and even the ground wire. The post asked those with information to call Dufferin OPP, which is investigating.

MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER BREAK AND ENTER IN GRAND VALLEY

On Sunday, Apr. 25, 2021, at about 6:15 a.m., officers from the Dufferin OPP responded to a break and enter in progress at a rural property on Con. Road 2-3 in the Town of Grand Valley.

Police were told that a male suspect entered the property and was trying to steal a triaxle dump trailer.

The homeowner sounded his security alarm, which scared off the intruder, and the homeowner allegedly saw the suspect continue onto Wellington County Rd. 16, then drive the truck into a ditch and flee on foot.

A second complainant contacted police to advise that he found a man in his barn located on County Road 16, and drove him to a local gas station, not being aware of the ongoing criminal investigation.

Officers went to the gas station and located a suspect. The vehicle was determined to be stolen.

As a result of the investigation conducted by both Dufferin and Wellington County OPP, the suspect was arrested and charged.

A 42-year-old man of no fixed address, faces several charges, and was transported to the Dufferin Detachment and held pending a bail hearing.
