Taber Food Grains harvest a success

In a field off Highway 36 south, around 150 people gathered on Aug. 31 for the Taber Foodgrains Project harvest. This year’s project was located just half a mile south of Taber and seed was donated by Chinridge Seeds. The foodgrains project is all about stopping world hunger with all efforts raised going towards the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank has been around since 1983 with the Taber faction operating since 1997. For the Taber project’s 2021 harvest, 10 combines, three grain carts and seven trucks gathered together to harvest the field, which resulted in a yield of 80 bushels to the acre. The grain from the project was sold to P & H Bow Island with the straw being sold to TFS Expanse. Before the harvest kicked off, lunch was provided by CIBC, drinks were provided by Avail CPA and chips by Frito Lay Taber. Combines for this year’s harvest were donated by Western Tractor, Rocky Mountain Equipment, Alberta Ag Centre, two from Oaklane Colony, Ed Hoffsink, Lauwen Farms, HBV Farms, Kerkoff Farms and Ben Dyck. Trucks were donated by Sunrise Ventures, Dykstra Trucking, two from DB Transport, Oaklane Colony and two from Bulk Transport. Grain carts were donated by Gouw Quality Onions, SLM Spud Farms, and Kerkoff Farms, while the baler was donated by Martens Farms.
