Emily Blunt responded to long-standing Fantastic Four casting rumors. It is now well-known that in Iron Man 2,and since then, her name has been attached to the MCU. 20th Century Fox was responsible for the Fantastic Four s cinematic debut in 2005, a less than serious take Marvel s First Family, which led to the 2007 sequel subtitled,Rise of the Silver Surfer, before the franchise fizzled out. Fox tried to rebootFantastic Four in 2015, but the film was a commercial and critical flop.
Marvel Studios acquired the rights to Fantastic Four in Disneys acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, and since then, the Mouse House has been looking to revitalize the flailing franchise. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel head, Kevin Feige confirmed that a Fantastic Four movie was in development , and later it was announced Jon Watts, the director known for all three of the MCUs Spider-Man movies, would helm. The project has been rather quiet since then, but there has been no shortage of fan castings. Now, during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show , Blunt is responding to these long-standing Fantastic Four casting rumors. While fans have been clamoring to see Blunt and Krasinski cast as the Invisible Woman and the super stretchy Mr. Fantastic, Blunt unequivocally dispelled any rumors about herself or her husband potentially appearing in Marvels upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. When asked if the genre was beneath her, the Quiet Place star was rather blunt, when voicing her dislike of superhero movies. Read her full response below:
That is fan-casting. No one has received a phone call. Thats just people saying, Wouldnt that be great? ... Its not that its beneath me. I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow I was obsessed with Iron Man. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr.it wouldve been amazing but I dont know if superhero movies are for me. Theyre not up my alley. I dont like them. I really dont.
Though Blunt did seem clear she wasnt interested in playing a superhero, she added, Its not to say that Id never want to play one, which leaves some hope for fans whowish to someday seeher as Sue Storm.AlthoughBlunt did say it would have to be a really cool character before she is interested.
While it doesnt seem that Sue Storm meets Blunts requirements, she would undoubtedly be a great casting choice. She has previously proven she belongs in action films, based on and A Quiet Place, and has also pulled off more comedic roles in her career as well. Since it is currently being speculated that Fantastic Fourcould take up the remaining slot in Marvels 2023 slate, they likely have not even begun the casting process yet. Maybe when Marvels Fantastic Four movie actually begins to materialize, a potential role in the MCU willstart to draw some interest from Blunt.
