Almost half of the new cases — 374 — were in Toronto, while Peel Region recorded 107, York Region had 93 and Ottawa had 70.

Ten more deaths were reported. Of the 278 patients in hospital on Friday, 72 were in intensive care units, and 42 of the ICU patients were on ventilators.

The province processed almost 45,000 tests on Friday, .

To date, the province has recorded 63,713 cases of COVID-19, 54,686 of which are listed as resolved, and 3,041 deaths.

On Friday, Premier Doug Ford ordered the York Region to revert to modified Stage 2 restrictions for 28 days. That means indoor dining, gyms and movie theatres will close starting Monday.

“We’re seeing a rapid increase in the rate of infection, with the positivity rate of 2.77 per cent, above the high-alert threshold of 2.5 per cent,” Ford said of York.

Schools are also seeing a rise in cases across the province. There were 98 new cases of COVID-19 reported in publicly funded schools on Friday. Fifty-five students, 12 staff and 31 unidentified individuals tested positive.
